Bison Athletic Hall of Fame
Three-time North Central Conference champion at 177 and 190 pounds. NCAA Division II national champion in 1975 at 190 pounds and All-America on two other occasions -- 1972 (5th, 190) and 1974 (2nd, 177). Rheingans advanced to the 1975 NCAA Division I championships and placed fourth. He ended his NDSU wrestling career with a 96-11-0 record (.897). A member of the 1975 U.S. Pan-American team, he captured the title at 220 pounds. He was a member of the 1976 United States Olympic team and finished fourth. He was also a third-place finisher in the 1979 World Games for the American team. Rheingans wrestled professionally on the American Wrestling Association and World Wrestling Federation circuits.
