Earned national recognition both as a Bison athlete and coach. Received first-team All-America honors as an offensive center in 1946, and guided the NDSU baseball team to a 2nd place finish at the 1956 NCAA regional playoffs. It marked the first time a Bison baseball team had competed in postseason play. Also member of the Bison football coaching staff. Went on to serve as director of youth services for the Anaheim (Calif.) Union High School District, where he was commended by Reader's Digest and West Coast publications for his outstanding accomplishments in working with youth. He developed a counter drug abuse program.
