All-North Central Conference end as a junior in 1949 before a knee injury cut short his career. Played both halfback and end in college.

Hired by the famed Vince Lombardi as athletic trainer for the Green Bay Packers in 1961, he served with the Packers for 32 years before retiring in 1992. During that time, Green Bay won five world championships, including the first two Super Bowls.

He has received numerous awards including membership in the Wisconsin Hall of Fame. He was the 1992 winner of the Ed Block of Courage Award (Trainer of the Year). Coached for 11 years at three high schools in Wisconsin, compiling a 120-45 record.
