Linderman was a track and football star for NDSU in 1964, 1965 and 1966. In football, he was the leading Bison receiver for three years and was named All-NCC at split end in 1965 and 1966. He captained both the 1965 and 1966 Bison elevens. In 1965, as a member of NDSU's first national championship team, he was named the outstanding lineman in the Pecan Bowl when the Bison defeated Grambling. In 1966, Linderman and quarterback Terry Hanson established a record for the longest TD pass play -- an 86-yarder against Morningside. As a three-year letterman in track, he won the NCC pole vault title and placed third in the pole vault at the NCAA College Division championships in 1965.
