A standout guard for the Bison on the basketball court in the middle 1970s, Emerson was the rare combination of a great scorer and a top assist performer. He set a school record for assists (415) and left as the fourth leading scorer in school history with 1,412 points.

Mark averaged 13.1 points per game over his 106-game career, the most games ever played by a Bison cager to that time. Averaged 19.1 ppg as a sophomore and 15.1 ppg as a senior, earning All-North Central Conference honors in both seasons. The Bison posted four straight winning seasons during his career.

A native of Mt. Horeb, Wis., he was a first team all-state selection and an honorable mention All-America high school pick. After leaving NDSU, he became a master electrician for the State of Wisconsin and was employed with a private electrical firm in Madison, Wis.
