A five-time all-conference wrestler and four-time Minnesota state tournament qualifier for St. Francis High School, he was the NCAA Division II national champion at 157 pounds in 2003 for the Bison...Three-time All-American overall, he placed second in 2002 and third in 2004...Wrestled in four NCAA tournaments...Freshman on the 2001 NCAA Division II national championship team...Three-time North Central Conference champion from 2002 to 2004...Part of three North Central Conference championship teams in 2001, 2002 and 2004...Tied for 10th on the all-time NDSU win list with a record of 97-36-0 and went 41-13 in dual matches...Had 23 bonus-point victories including three pins, six technical falls and 14 major decisions...Once had 12 takedowns in a single match...As a freshman, placed fourth in the North Central Conference Championship to earn a trip to the NCAA Championship...Five-time team captain in high school wrestling and football, he was inducted into the St. Francis High School Hall of Fame in 2014...Also was inducted into the Division II Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2020.
