BROOKINGS, S.D. – The North Dakota State women's cross country team used a balanced team effort to earn a second-place finish at the SDSU Classic hosted by South Dakota State on Friday, Oct. 4.

Nationally-ranked Minnesota took first with a perfect team score of 15. The Bison scored 57 points for second, and Summit League foes South Dakota and South Dakota State took third and fourth, respectively.

Senior Maddie McClellan took 11th place overall as the top finisher for the Bison, completing the 5k course in 18:12.00. Junior Abbi Aspengren was close behind, claiming 12th place in 18:13.24.

Sophomore Brecca Wahlund made her season debut for NDSU, taking 15th place in 18:16.43, and redshirt freshman Erin Teschuk was 16th in 18:21.95. Heidi Peterson took 21st in 18:35.78 to complete the team scoring for the Bison.

The meet featured a total of 134 runners.

The two-time defending Summit League champion Bison return to action Oct. 19 when they travel to Grand Forks to compete in the UND Ron Pynn Invitational.
