Bison Go 3-0, Teschuk Wins Individual Title at Bison Open

FARGO, N.D. – The two-time defending Summit League champion North Dakota State women's cross country team put together an impressive season-opening effort on Friday evening, posting a perfect 3-0 record in the triple-dual format at the Bison Open.
Redshirt freshman Erin Teschuk won the individual crown in her first collegiate cross country race, finishing the 4k course in 14:41.68. Senior teammate Maddie McClellan took runner-up honors in 14:45.53.
NDSU defeated South Dakota State by a margin of 22-35, topped South Dakota by a score of 27-30, and beat North Dakota 23-33. The meet was scored to reflect true dual scores between the four schools, using the top five finishers from each.
Behind Teschuk and McClellan, NDSU had sophomore Tarin Lachowitzer place sixth in 15:00.22 and junior Abbi Aspengren take eighth in 15:09.73. Freshman Taylor Janssen rounded out the Bison scoring in 28th place overall, finishing the 4k in 16:17.64.
Freshman Kayla Woltz also made her collegiate debut, placing 35th overall.
Picked to win the Summit League title for the third straight year, NDSU showed its depth on Friday. Brecca Wahlund and Heidi Peterson – all-leaguer performers and two of the top runners for the Bison in 2012 – did not compete. Teschuk did not compete in cross country as a true freshman last season, but took second place in the 1500m at the Summit League Outdoor Championships to cap an impressive season on the track.
The next scheduled competition for the Bison will be the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif., on Sept. 28.
