NDSU Soccer Battles South Dakota State to Scoreless Draw
10/3/2026 10:12:00 PM | Women's Soccer
FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State soccer played South Dakota State to a scoreless draw Saturday night at Dacotah Field, with both defenses standing firm in a physical Summit League matchup.
The Bison (3-4-5, 1-1-1 Summit League) and Jackrabbits (6-2-3, 1-0-2 Summit League) each finished with 13 shots. NDSU goalkeeper Payton Mulberry turned aside all six South Dakota State shots on goal to preserve her fourth shutout of the season and 11th of her career to move into a tie with Abby Wilkson for sixth all-time in NDSU history.
NDSU created several quality chances, led by Morgan Russmann, who registered a team-high six shots and put three on frame. Tyreese Zacher added two shots, while Hannah Arnold and Gabrielle Garrett each recorded a pair of attempts. Russmann and Arnold each had shots beat Mallorie Benhart but go just wide early in the first half.
South Dakota State generated early pressure, forcing Mulberry into a pair of early saves in the opening 14 minutes. Mulberry would make four saves in the second half and was especially important late in the contest, as she stopped three South Dakota State shots between the 80th and 82nd minutes, including back-to-back attempts by Jenna Maloy, to keep the Jackrabbits off the scoreboard.
NDSU returns to action on Thursday, October 8, as the Bison host St. Thomas. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Dacotah Field.
