Sprinters Lead Top Performances on Day One of Summit League Championships

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The sprint group highlighted the North Dakota State women's track & field performance on the opening day of the Summit League Indoor Championships on Friday.
The Bison excelled in the 60m hurdles, capturing four of the eight spots in the final. Freshman Jordyn Davis was the fastest qualifier in the prelims, running 8.51. Marvelous Onwualo (8.59), Kate Laqua (8.73), and Rylee Johnson (8.82) also qualified for the final.
Anika Larson and Paige Renschler both recorded career-best times in the 200m dash to enter the final as the top two qualifiers. Larson ran 23.88 to advance as the top seed, and Renschler clocked 23.96 to climb to the third-fastest Bison in indoor history.
The pair also recorded the top two times in the 60m dash. Renschler ran a personal-best 7.39 to be the top qualifier heading into the final, climbing to No. 2 in NDSU history. Larson ran 7.43, just off her season best. Freshman Kendra Mehrkens also advanced to the final with a 7.56.
Reese Rogowski is the top qualifier heading into the final for the 400m, running 54.87 in prelims. Kaela Skistad ran 55.07, and Soraya Espino recorded a personal-best 55.51 to also advance to the 400m final.
Jade Rypkema ran a personal-best 9:36.68 in the 3000m to claim fifth place. She now ranks eighth in NDSU indoor history.
Jaelyn Miller, Kendal Stingle, Corene Moeller, and Reagan Berg took third in the distance medley relay, running 11:33.51 to become the third-fastest in school history.
Two field events and the pentathlon concluded on day one of the Championships. Ella Gardner was the runner-up in the long jump, leaping 19-02.75 (5.86m). Grace VanErp cleared a season-best mark of 18-05.75 (5.63m) to take eighth.
Grace Steffen took fifth in the weight throw with a mark of 60-08.00 (18.49m).
Paige Halder placed third in the pentathlon, scoring a personal-best 3,717 points to rank seventh all-time at NDSU. Yolanda Nabwe finished fourth with a personal-best score of 3,703 points. She is now No. 9 in NDSU history.
Through five scoring events, the Bison are currently in second place with 36 points. North Dakota is leading after the first day with 58 points.
