Bishoff, Francis, Sellheim Named to USTFCCCA All-Academic Team

NEW ORLEANS, La. - North Dakota State men's track and field seniors Matt Bishoff, Shawn Francis and Jeremiah Sellheim were named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team announced Tuesday, July 14. A record total of 327 student-athletes representing 107 Division I institutions made up the men's 2009 All-Academic team.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either the NCAA Division I Indoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard or the NCAA Division I Outdoor regional or national qualifying standard in their respective event.
Bishoff was the first NDSU men's track and field athlete to earn USTFCCCA All-America honors after finishing 11th in the heptathlon at the 2009 NCAA Indoor Championships. The Fargo native set a school record in the event at the Bison Open, tallying 5,529 points. Bishoff claimed Championship MVP honors at the Summit League Indoor Championships after winning the heptathlon and second place finishes in the pole vault and long jump. Bishoff also won the decathlon at the Summit League, reaching an NCAA provisional mark of 7,026 points.
Francis, a senior from Hastings, Minn., was an ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District honoree this spring. Francis finished eighth in the pole vault at the NCAA Midwest Region Championships. He is ranked second on the NDSU all-time performance charts in the event with a mark of 17-0 3/4 , which he reached at the Drake Relays. Francis also reached an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the pole vault in indoor track, clearing 17-0 3/4, which is second on the school's all-time indoor performance charts.
Sellheim is also an ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District award winner. The Roseau, Minn. native won the 2009 Summit League title in the javelin and earned a spot at the NCAA Midwest Regional where he finished 22nd. He is ranked sixth on the NDSU all-time performance charts in the indoor heptathlon with 4,705 points and ninth in the outdoor decathlon with 6,576 points.
