Bison Place Third in D-I Team Race at Stanford Invitational

STANFORD, Calif. – The North Dakota State University men's cross country team earned a third-place team finish among the 12 Division I schools competing at the Stanford Cross Country Invitational on Saturday morning.
The Bison finished with a score of 104 points to come in behind only Stanford (25) and Loyola Marymount (50) in the team race. Stanford is ranked fifth and Loyola Marymount is 12th in the latest West Region rankings.
Junior Brett Kelly was NDSU's top finisher for the second time this season, placing an impressive 23rd out of 243 individuals. Kelly completed the eight-kilometer course in 25:30 – a pace of 5:08 per mile – and he trimmed 49 seconds off his performance at the 2012 Stanford Invitational.
Senior Alec Espeland was the No. 2 finisher for the Bison, taking 42nd overall in an 8k personal-best 25:57. Junior Lucas DeGree placed 59th with a time of 26:15. Sophomore Brendan Skime (26:24) and junior Marty Joyce (26:26) claimed 71st and 75th place, respectively, to round out the NDSU scoring.
The Bison are scheduled to compete next at the SDSU Classic in Brookings, S.D., on Oct. 4.
