AMES, Iowa – Redshirt freshman Tim Heikkila paced the North Dakota State men's cross country team at the NCAA Midwest Regional on Friday. Heikkila finished 59th overall, running a time of 30:17.9 for the 10k at ISU Cross Country Course.
The Bison men finished 19th as a team with 488 points.
Senior Brant Gilbertson capped his cross country career with his best regional meet finish, taking 84th place in 30:33.1. Junior Elliott Stone ran 30:48.9 for 98th place, redshirt freshman Alex Bartholomay clocked 31:03.3 for 113th, and sophomore Evan Kottsick rounded out the team scoring for NDSU in 134th at 31:23.7.
Heikkila's 59th-place showing was the best by a Bison at the Midwest Regional since Brett Kelly took 54th in 2014. Stone and Kottsick both posted improved finishes over last season, with Stone moving up 22 places and Kottsick up 11.
Iowa State won the team title, and Jonathan Davis of Illinois took the individual crown.
