Bartholomay Leads NDSU Cross Country to Runner-Up Finish at Bison Open

FARGO, N.D – Junior Alex Bartholomay placed third overall to lead the North Dakota State men's cross country team to a runner-up finish at the Bison Open Friday evening at Rose Creek Golf Course.

Preseason Summit League favorite South Dakota State won the men's team title with 19 points, and NDSU was second with 50. South Dakota took third with 73, and North Dakota was a distant fourth with 122 points.

Bartholomay ran the six-kilometer race in 18:34.5 to finish third. Bison junior Tim Heikkila placed sixth with a time of 18:43.0.

Three underclassmen completed the team scoring for NDSU. Sophomore Keiser Freetly took 13th in 19:06.4, freshman Isaac Huber was 14th in 19:12.5 for his collegiate debut, and redshirt freshman Evan Sayler finished 23rd in 19:28.9.

Competing unattached, NDSU freshman Payton Smith (Carrington, N.D.) placed 17th overall with a 6k time of 19:21.0.

Bartholomay trimmed 44 seconds off his Bison Open 6k time from last season, and Heikkila cut 40 seconds.
