NDSU Men’s Cross Country Goes 2-1 at Bison Open, Kelly Places Fourth

FARGO, N.D. – Junior Brett Kelly placed fourth overall to help the North Dakota State men's cross country team to a 2-1 record in the triple-dual format of Friday's Bison Open held at Rose Creek Golf Course.
The meet was scored to reflect true dual scores between four schools, using the top five finishers from each. NDSU defeated South Dakota, 24-35, and North Dakota, 19-39. Preseason Summit League favorite South Dakota State defeated the Bison, 23-32, and went a perfect 3-0 on the evening.
Kelly completed the 5k course in 15:56.94 for fourth place. Sophomore Brendan Skime claimed 10th in 16:10.68, Marty Joyce was 11th in 16:15.94, and Grady Anderson placed 12th in 16:18.98. Junior Lucas DeGree completed the Bison scoring in 13th place, finishing in 16:20.07.
NDSU senior Alec Espeland and junior Spencer Uetz both made their return to competition after sitting out the 2012 season. Espeland took 16th place, and Uetz was 28th.
South Dakota State's Joel Reichow won the individual title in 15:46.38.
The next scheduled competition for the Bison will be the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif., on Sept. 28.
