No. 24 Wichita State Sweeps NDSU Volleyball in Season Opener

OREM, Utah – No. 24-ranked Wichita State handed the North Dakota State volleyball team a 3-0 defeat to open the 2013 season on Friday, Aug. 30, at the La Quinta Inn & Suites Invitational hosted by Utah Valley University. Set scores were 25-22, 25-16 and 25-18 in favor of the Shockers.
Three freshmen led the Bison on the stat sheet, with middle blocker Emily Miron leading the way with 10 kills and four blocks. Monica Claxton recorded 28 assists, and Emily Milligan posted 10 digs to lead the team.
Wichita State (1-0) hit .267 for the match, topping NDSU's attack percentage of .100.
NDSU (0-1) led 19-18 in the first set before the Shockers rallied to take seven of the last 10 points and claim the set, 25-22.
Senior Dani DeGagne, junior Katie Anderson and freshman Hadley Steffen all made their Bison debuts. Freshman Emily Minnick notched nine kills and a .500 attack percentage.
NDSU will face Utah Valley at 1:30 p.m. and Arizona State at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.
