Bison Volleyball Comes Up Short against Radford

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The North Dakota State volleyball team was unable to pull out victories in a pair of close sets, dropping a 3-0 decision to defending Big South Conference champion Radford at the New Mexico State Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 6, inside the Pan American Center. Radford won by set scores of 25-23, 26-24 and 25-16.
NDSU (1-5 overall) committed 23 attack errors and hit .089 for the match. Sophomore middle blocker Emily Miron led the Bison with 11 kills and three solo blocks. Junior outside hitter Jenni Fassbender and sophomore Emily Milligan both recorded 13 digs for NDSU.
Radford (5-2) got 12 kills from senior outside hitter Rachel Wiechecki and 11 from freshman outside hitter Maddie Palmer.
The Bison tied the first set at 19-19 and 20-20 on kills by freshman Jessica Jorgensen on both occasions, but Radford eventually pulled out the 25-23 victory.
In the second set, NDSU held a 17-12 lead before the Highlanders battled back to force a 20-20 tie. The Bison led 24-23, but the final three points went to Radford for the set victory. Radford never trailed in the final set.
NDSU will host North Dakota at the Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse on Tuesday, Sept. 9, at 7 p.m.
