The North Dakota State women's cross country team will travel to Ames, Iowa, to compete in the NCAA Midwest Regional hosted by Iowa State University on Friday, Nov. 10.
Â
The women's six-kilometer race will begin at 10:45 a.m. at the ISU Cross Country Course, with the men's 10k to follow at 11:45 a.m.
Â
The NCAA Midwest Regional will feature runners from 35 teams spanning nine states (Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma and South Dakota). The Bison women placed 18th as a team last season.
Â
A total of 31 teams will qualify for the NCAA Championships in Louisville, Ky., on Nov. 18. The top two teams at each of the nine regional meets automatically qualify, leaving 13 at-large bids. The selection process looks at each team's performance over the course of the season, along with their finish at the NCAA Regional.
Â
Individually, 38 additional athletes per gender will qualify and the top four runÂners at each regional not on a qualifying team will automatically be selected.
Â
North Dakota State is expected to enter seven runners in the women's race – Kelby Anderson, Jen Dufner, Kayla Huhnerkoch, Melina Kuerschner, Emma Kusch Dahle, Ashley Perez and Annika Rotvold – with none of those entries being seniors.
Â
The Bison women are coming off a runner-up finish at the Summit League Championships on Oct. 28. Anderson won Newcomer of the Year honors after leading NDSU with a third-place individual finish at the conference meet, clocking the eighth-fastest 6k in NDSU cross country history in the process.
Â
Kusch Dahle was the top runner for NDSU at the Midwest Regional last year, placing 69th overall with a personal-best 6k time.
