Otterdahl, St. Clair Earn Top Regional Honors for Outdoor Season

FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State senior thrower Payton Otterdahl and associate head track & field coach Justin St. Clair have earned regional athlete and coach of the year honors, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced Friday.
Otterdahl was named the men's Midwest Region Field Athlete of the Year, while St. Clair was recognized as the men's Midwest Region Assistant Coach of the Year. This is St. Clair's sixth regional Assistant Coach of the Year honor overall.
Otterdahl, a senior from Rosemount, Minn., is ranked second nationally in the shot put at 70-01.50 (21.37m) and third nationally in the discus at 206-6 (62.94m). He is the only man ranked in the top-10 nationally in both the shot put and discus. Otterdahl will compete in both events at the NCAA Championships on June 5 and June 7 in Austin, Texas.
St. Clair, in his eighth year with the program, coached NDSU to 10 NCAA West Prelims entries in the men's throws, with six of those entries advancing to the national meet – including at least one in every throwing event and three in the shot put.
His group holds the No. 1 event squad ranking in the hammer throw and is the only school in the nation with four men over 60 meters in the event this year. His athletes are also No. 2 in the event squad ranking in the shot put and are the only team in the country with four men over 60 feet in the shot this season. St. Clair's group swept the four Summit League titles in the throwing events and posted 95 team points at the league meet.
