BROOKINGS, S.D. – North Dakota State junior Kelby Anderson won her second consecutive race to lead the Bison women's cross country team at the SDSU Classic on Friday evening.
Anderson clocked 18:03.25 to take first place in the five-kilometer race at a soggy and muddy Edgebrook Golf Course, winning by a margin of 21 seconds.
The Bison women finished second behind South Dakota State in the team standings by only one point, with the Jackrabbits scoring 31 and NDSU scoring 32.
NDSU finished sixth, seventh, eighth and tenth behind Anderson. Junior Brynnan Covington was sixth in 18:53.09, senior Alaysia Freetly was seventh in 18:53.43, and sophomore Mikayla Koenig took eighth with a time of 18:54.91. Bison senior Melina Kuerschner finished 10th to complete NDSU's team scoring, crossing the line in 18:59.65.
Freshman Kaleesa Houston placed 13th overall for the Bison women, running 19:11.27 for the 5k. Peyton Frolek finished 15th, and Jen Dufner was 16th.
Anderson also won the Bison Open on Aug. 30. This was the fifth race victory of her collegiate cross country career.
