NDSU Men’s Golf Mid Pack After Day One of Hawkeye Invitational

RIVERSIDE, Iowa – North Dakota State men's golf wrapped up day one of the Hawkeye Invitational hosted by Iowa at Blue Top Ridge. The Bison sit eighth of 14 teams headed into the final round on Tuesday.
Carter White and Rylin Petry led the way for the Bison on day one, sitting in a tie for 22nd at +3 following the opening 36 holes.
White had a strong opening round and was in second place following the opening 18 holes after shooting a 69. White carded six birdies in round one to card the only sub-par round of the day for NDSU. In round two, White had three more birdies but had two tough stretches with consecutive bogeys and fell back to +3 after a 78.
Petry had one birdie and 14 pars in the opening round, shooting a 74. The senior answered back with a team best five birdies in the second round to help shoot a 73.
Andrew Ballou carded back-to-back rounds of 75 to sit at +6 overall in 34th place following the first day. Ballou had two birdies and 11 pars in round one before one birdie and 14 pars to close the day.
Gabe Benson and Jake Skarperud close out the lineup for the Bison at +9, sitting in a tie for 52nd. Skarperud shot rounds of 78 and 75, while Benson finished with rounds of 77 and 76. Joey Mackinac, who is playing as an individual, carded consecutive rounds of 77 and sits in 58th at +10.
The Bison close out the tournament and the regular season on Tuesday with the final round of the Hawkeye Invitational. Tee times are set for 9 a.m. from Blue Top Ridge.
