NDSU Softball Wins 8-6 to Even Series with North Dakota

NDSU took the lead in the top of the second with a sacrifice fly from Morgan Zimmerman. The Bison then doubled the lead in the third when Amai Hanta stole second, which allowed Taylinn Warren to score from third on a throwing error.
After North Dakota answered with two runs in the bottom of the third, the Bison loaded the bases with no outs and went on to score four runs in the inning to retake the lead. Zoe King started the scoring with a fielder's choice to score Jessica Delatorre, followed by a run from Zimmerman on an error. Star Cortez then singled home a run and Bella Dean closed the scoring in the fourth for NDSU with a sacrifice fly.
North Dakota responded with two more runs in the bottom of the fourth, but Delatorre extended the lead back to three with a solo home run to lead off the fifth inning. The Fighting Hawks answered back with two solo home runs in the bottom of the fifth to cut the Bison lead to 7-6.
In the seventh inning, NDSU would add an insurance run with a two-out rally, as Zoe King recorded a double to left center. Taylinn Warren then extended the lead to 8-6 with her own double.
Piper Reed picked up the win in relief, allowing just two runs in four innings. Madison Wihlm had three strikeouts in three innings to start.
Warren led the way for the Bison with three hits, adding two runs and two RBI. Delatorre and Nieto finished with two hits each. Delatorre also had a walk and finished with two runs scored.
The Bison win sets up a rubber match in the series on Sunday. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. from Albrecht Field.
