NDSU Shuts Out Carroll College 2-0 at the Best Western Regency UNC Classic

Box Score

GREELEY, Colo.--North Dakota State opened the Best Western Regency Northern Colorado Classic on Friday, Oct. 15, with a victory over Carroll College 2-0.  Carly Christensen and Jessica Rodgers scored second half goals to lead NDSU (5-6-1) after a scoreless first half.  Bison goalkeeper Kelli Reed posted her second consecutive win by stopping eight Fighting Saints shots.

An evenly matched first half with Carroll College holding a slight advantage in shots (5-4) changed suddenly just one minute into the second half.  Christensen, a junior from New Brighton, Minn., took a feed from sophomore Jessica Parker and scored past Carroll College goalkeeper Nikki Skaggs.  Christensen now has three goals on her resume in 2004.  Parker added her first assist of the year.

At the 73:17 mark, freshman Patty Romeo set up Jessica Rodgers for an insurance goal.  The junior from Spearfish, S.D., nailed home her team-leading fourth goal of the season to put the Bison in front 2-0.  The NDSU defense would not allow a Fighting Saint goal to post the team's second shutout of the year.

Carroll College finished with 13 shots to NDSU's 11.  Rodgers led the charge with four shots.  Sarah Panzer added two shots, while Parker, Erin Tierney, Michelle Martinez, and Laura Hermanson all provided scoring chances.

Reed improved her record to 3-0 as a starter and lowered her goals-against-average down to 0.53 per contest.

The Bison will take on host Northern Colorado on Sunday, Oct. 17 to wrap up tournament action.  The scheduled kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
