UC Davis Prevails over NDSU 2-1 in Tale of Two Halves

Box Score

DAVIS, Calif.--After controlling most of the action in the first half, North Dakota State (5-10-1) saw its lead vanish as the Bison fell 2-1 to UC Davis (8-9-1) on Friday, Nov. 5.  Freshman forward Michelle Martinez scored her fifth goal of the season for NDSU at the 15-minute mark to put the Bison ahead, but the Aggies responded with two second-half tallies to come away with the victory.

It was the fourth straight defeat for NDSU and the third win in a row for UC Davis.  The Aggies prevailed in front of a crowd of 342 at Aggie Field.

Martinez, a 5-foot-4 freshman from Winnipeg, Manitoba, opened scoring early for the Bison.  Junior Jessica Rodgers found an open Martinez at the 15:14 for the score.  Martinez now has 10 points on the season for NDSU.  Rodgers notched her fourth assist on the season and now has fourteen points this year.

NDSU went into the break leading in shots by a margin of seven to five and in corner kicks with a three to one margin.

UC Davis's Alison Green tied the score at 63:19 when she rebounded a shot by teammate Annie McAllister and scored past Bison goalkeeper Katie Stombaugh.

Aggie leading scorer Lindsey Raymond hammered home the game winner with just under three minutes to play when she beat NDSU goalkeeper Kelli Reed.

UC Davis out shot the Bison 12-3 in the second half and finished with 17 shots to NDSU's 10.  Martinez, Rodgers, Carly Christensen, Erin Tierney, Sarah Panzer, Keri Blanchette and Jessica Parker paced the Bison attack.

Stombaugh had five saves in the contest and Reed one.

"It was definitely a tale of two halves," said head coach Pete Cuadrado.  "We dominated the first half and they dominated the second, so you have to give UC Davis credit.  It was a very physical game and they are a good team.  We just have to get better at playing with a lead."

NDSU closes out the season on Sunday, Nov. 7 with a game versus Cal State-Hayward.  Kickoff is set for noon in Hayward, Calif.
