Box Score RIVERSIDE, Calif.-- The North Dakota State women's soccer team fell for only the second time on the season after suffering a 3-0 defeat at UC Riverside on Friday, Sept. 30.
The Bison defense held up during the first half, extending its shutout streak to 330 minutes before senior Renee Scachetti put the Highlanders on the board with a scoring strike in the 51st minute.
Scachetti continued her offensive ways by receiving an assist when her blocked shot set up teammate Vanessa Chanez with a goal at the 54:08 mark.
Scachetti closed out the game's scoring with a left-footed dart that skipped by NDSU goalie Karli Kopietz in the 69th minute. Scachetti team-leading ninth goal and 22 points established new UC Riverside single-season records.
With the win the Highlanders improved to 6-3-1 on the year.
“They are the best team we have played all year ,” NDSU head coach Pete Cuadrado said. “They are big and physical. We needed to do a better job of challenging the ball in the air.”
The UC Riverside outshot NDSU 21-6 in the contest and finished with a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.
“We had some chances, but we didn't strike the ball very well today,” Cuadrado said.
The Bison return to action on Sunday, Oct. 2, with a match at UC Irvine. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. PST.
