Box Score FARGO, N.D. - Sophomore Lorraine Thompson tallied two goals and freshman Quin Ryan added another of her own to lead North Dakota State to a 3-0 victory over IPFW at the Ellig Sports Complex on Sunday, Oct. 7. The win was the third straight for the Bison and improved NDSU to 8-4-0 on the season and 2-1-0 in Summit League play.
On a cold, wet, and windy afternoon in Fargo, North Dakota State had a number of scoring opportunities in the first half before Thompson stole a pass at the top of the penalty area in the 38th minute and fired a shot past Mastodon goalkeeper Malinda Holmer to put NDSU on top 1-0. Junior Becky Iwanicki picked up her first assist of the season with the score.
In the second half, Thompson would strike again with a quick shot past Holmer in the 61st minute for her third multi-goal game in a Bison uniform. Thompson now has four goals on the season and improved her career total to 13 for NDSU. She also has nine points on the year for the Bison.
NDSU added some insurance as Ryan received a pass near mid-field from Candice D'Arcangeli in the 72nd minute, then made some nice moves to beat all the IPFW defenders before putting the ball past Holmer to record her second goal of the season. Senior Patty Romeo was also credited with an assist on the play.
Goalkeepers Monica Morgan and Jessica Nei combined to shut out the Mastodons (0-11-0, 0-3-0), with Morgan being credited with the victory. The win improves her season record to 8-4, and her career win total to 20. North Dakota State also improves to 6-1-0 at the Ellig Sports Complex this season.
NDSU will take its final break from Summit League play this weekend when it concludes its four game home stand. Utah Valley State visits Fargo on Friday, Oct. 12, at 4 p.m., followed by New Jersey Institute of Technology's first ever trip to the Ellig Sports Complex on Sunday, Oct. 14. Kick-off against the Highlanders is scheduled for 12 p.m.
