Thompson's Goal Gives North Dakota State 1-0 Victory Over Wisconsin-Green Bay

Box Score

GREEN BAY, Wis. - Lorraine Thompson's goal in the 61st minute was the only goal the North Dakota State soccer team could manage Sunday afternoon.  Luckily, it was all it needed as the Bison defeat Wisconsin-Green Bay 1-0 at Santaga Stadium to improve to 5-1-0 on the season.

Thompson, playing at midfield for the first time this season, was the biggest offensive threat for NDSU, taking five shots on the afternoon, four of which were on goal.  She was finally able to defeat Phoenix (0-6-0) goalkeeper Brooke Wikgren off a rebound after her initial shot was saved.  It appears North Dakota State is becoming comfortable in one-goal games, as all six contests in 2007 have been decided by one goal.

"I'm just really pleased with the girls' effort this weekend," said head coach Pete Cuadrado.  "To have such a limited amount of substitutions and to play hard against two good Division I opponents - it just made for a good weekend."

Sophomore goalkeeper Monica Morgan made three saves on the afternoon to record her second shutout of the season and 10th of her Bison career, moving her into a three-way tie for second place all-time with Margaret Palo (1996-97) and Tara Sweeney (1999-02).  It was also Morgan's 17th win in net for NDSU, moving her into third place all-time.

The Bison travel to El Paso, Texas, to compete in the UTEP Border Shootout this weekend.  NDSU will meet New Mexico on Friday, Sept. 21, followed by a match against Idaho on Sunday, Sept. 23.
