Box Score FARGO, N.D. ? The North Dakota State soccer team dropped its first home contest of the year to Minnesota on Sunday, 3-0. The Bison fall to 2-2 this season and Minnesota is still undefeated at 4-0.
Laura and Kaitlin Wagner are sisters, yet were playing on opposite sides of the ball today. Laura, a freshman for the Bison, got her first career start today. Kaitlin, a senior for the Gophers, started as well.
It was Kaitlin who would strike first though, giving the Gophers a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute after she took a shot from right outside the box that went over the outstretched fingers of Bison goalie Kalani Bertsch.
NDSU could not get anything going on offense in the first half, only registering one shot. The Gophers dominated possession throughout the half and took 17 shots, but only forced one save.
In the second half, the Bison came out stronger, putting a little bit more pressure on the Gophers, however, Minnesota got a second goal in the 64th minute from sophomore Molly Rouse to go up 2-0.
Despite maintaining more possession in the second half, the Bison could not break through the Minnesota defense and the Gophers tallied a final goal in the 75th minute. Bertsch came out of the box and the ball went off her foot and straight to Katie Bethke, who put the ball past a sliding Abbey Stratton to give the Gophers a 3-0 lead.
The Bison now have a week off before they host Mary on Tuesday, Sept. 9 at 4 p.m.
