BROOKINGS, S.D. ? The North Dakota State soccer team dropped a 4-1 contest to Iowa State this afternoon at the Jackrabbit Invitational in Brookings, S.D.  The Bison fall to 3-3 on the year and the Cyclones improved to 3-2. 

Junior Lorraine Thompson gave the Bison their first chance of the night in the seventh minute, but her header was turned away by Cyclone keeper Ann Gleason.  Freshman Michelle Gaffaney also forced Gleason to make a save. 

Iowa State took a 1-0 lead in the 19^th minute on a goal by Lauren Odino after she put in a rebound off the crossbar. 

The Bison kept it close for the rest of the half and had shots by Gaffaney and junior Laura Murphy go wide. 

The game stayed close going into the second half.  Thompson got a ball in the middle of the box shortly after halftime, but put it over the crossbar.  The last half hour of the game was physically intense and the Cyclones took advantage. 

Iowa State extended its lead to 2-0 in the 60^th minute when Casey Boswell scored. 

12 minutes later, the Cyclones added to their lead after Leslie Hill put the ball past Bison goalie Kalani Bertsch.  Less than a minute later, the Cyclones notched their fourth goal of the game. 

NDSU got a goal back in the 77^th minute when Quin Ryan fed the ball to Danielle DeMent for her first collegiate goal. 

“We had a lot of chances that we didn't take advantage of,” said head coach Pete Cuadrado.  “We played solid soccer and moved the ball well.  The game got physical towards the end of the second half and we need to step up when that happens.”

The Bison next face Eastern Washington on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. in the Jackrabbit Invitational.
