Box Score MADISON, Wis. - The North Dakota State soccer team dropped a 1-0 contest to Wisconsin on Friday, Sept. 11. The Bison are now 2-3-1 on the season while Wisconsin improves to 3-2-1.
"We played a really good game," said head coach Pete Cuadrado. "It's frustrating to lose a game like that. We have to take the positives from tonight into Sunday's game."
Wisconsin outshot the Bison, 5-2, in the first half, but sophomore goalie Kalani Bertsch made two saves to keep the Badgers off the board until the 30th minute. Wisconsin's Alev Kelter was fouled in the box and Krista Liskevych converted the ensuing penalty kick to put the Badgers up 1-0 with 15 minutes to go in the half.
The Bison came out firing in the second half. Senior Becky Iwanicki sent a shot high in the 46th minute and sophomore Danielle DeMent had her shot saved three minutes later. Wisconsin keeper Lauren Gunderson saved a shot from Laura Wagner in the 64th minute. Bertsch made four more saves in the half to keep the deficit at one. The Bison had one final chance to tie the game on a free kick from midfield in the 88th minute, but the ball bounced over the crossbar.
It was the second straight game that the Bison have been shut out. On the night, Wisconsin outshot the Bison, 14-5 and the Badgers edged out the corner kick battle, 5-4.
NDSU stays in Wisconsin for a 1 p.m. matchup with Green Bay on Sunday, Sept. 13.
