FARGO, N.D. - The North Dakota State soccer team earned a 2-2 double overtime tie with North Dakota at the Ellig Sports Complex on Sunday, Sept. 25.  Rhaya Ballon scored the late equalizer for North Dakota with less than three minutes remaining in regulation.  The Bison are now 7-2-1 this season, while UND is 3-5-2.

North Dakota struck first as Rachael Loomis scored 16 minutes 12 seconds into the game, slotting home a cross from Megan Anderson.

After giving up the early goal, the Bison searched for an equalizer, notching 10 shots in the next 26 minutes.  Senior Abbey Moenkedick tied the game at 1-1 with 30 seconds remainining in the first half as she unleashed a shot from 40 yards out.  It was her first goal of the season.

Senior Danielle Boldenow came close to giving NDSU a lead early in the second half, but her shot hit the post.  In the 65th minute, senior keeper Kalani Bertsch made a huge save as she was able to deflect Ballon's shot that was heading for the corner up onto the crossbar and out.

UND goalkeeper Kristi Hestdalen made seven saves in the second half before junior Holly Christian was able to head the Bison into the lead in the 85th minute. Christian headed the ball over Hestdalen after receiving the ball from senior Morgan DeMike.  It was Christian's fourth goal in the last three games.

Ballon tallied the late equalizer for UND, slotting home a shot after a through ball from Sam Harris at the 87:07 mark.

The Bison held a 6-2 advantage in shots during the two overtime periods, but only two were on target.  Bertsch made one save in each overtime period.

NDSU dominated the shot count, holding a 34-16 advantage in shots and a 16-9 edge in shots on goal.  Hestdalen made 14 saves for UND, while Bertsch made seven for the Bison.

NDSU opens Summit League play against Southern Utah Friday, Sept. 30 at 4 p.m. at the Ellig Sports Complex.
