Bison Open Summit League Play at Home against Omaha and Oral Roberts
The North Dakota State University women's soccer team (5-5-0, 0-0-0 Summit League) will begin Summit League play with two matches at Dacotah Field this weekend. NDSU will host Omaha in the league opener on Friday, Oct. 2, at 7 p.m. before taking on Oral Roberts on Sunday, Oct. 4, at 1 p.m.

The Series against Omaha
Friday's match against the Mavericks will be the 10th meeting in the all-time series. NDSU leads the series, 5-3-1, after playing the Mavs to a 1-1 draw in double overtime last season in Omaha.
 
The Series against Oral Roberts
Sunday's contest against the Golden Eagles will mark the seventh meeting in the all-time series. The Bison lead the series, 4-1-1, and have won the last four meetings against ORU. Last season, NDSU beat Oral Roberts in Tulsa, Okla., 1-0.
 
Herd Quick Hits
  • NDSU enters the weekend at 5-5-0 overall after dropping a 1-0 decision to UC Riverside at home on Sunday, Sept. 27. The loss was the first of the season at home.
  • Through 10 matches, Lauren Miller has a team and Summit League-high seven goals and 18 points. Miller, Amy Yang and Britney Monteon are tied for the team lead and third in The Summit League in assists with four each.
  • Goalkeeper Sierra Bonham has started all 10 matches for NDSU, compiling a 5-5-0 record with two shutouts. The Red Deer, Alberta, native ranks second in The Summit League in saves with 58 and fourth in GAA at 1.55. Bonham has allowed 16 goals in 930:52 minutes between the pipes.
  • As a team, NDSU is averaging 2.10 goals per game while holding its opponents to 1.60 per game. The Bison boast a 47-35 advantage in corner kicks taken through 10 matches.

About Omaha
  • Omaha enters the weekend at 3-5-2 overall after falling to Missouri State on Sept. 22, 1-0, at home. The Mavs have struggled away from Omaha, going just 0-3-1 on the road so far this season.
  • UNO was picked to finish fifth in The Summit League Preseason Coaches' Poll.
  • Through 10 matches, Omaha is led offensively by Chelsi Rohloff with four goals, eight points, 30 shots, 14 shots on goal and two game-winning goals. Four other Mavericks have scored one goal each this season. Courtney Neville paces UNO in assists with two, while five fellow Mavs have one assist each on the season.
  • Goalkeeper Katlyn Schochenmaier has played in eight of UNO's 10 matches, starting six of them. She has a 3-3-1 record with one shutout and has allowed 12 goals while making 46 saves for a GAA of 1.71.
  • As a team, Omaha is averaging only 0.80 goals per game while allowing 2.30 per game.
  • The Mavs are under the leadership of 17th season head coach Don Klosterman (212-102-18 record at Omaha).
 
 
About Oral Roberts
  • Entering the weekend, Oral Roberts is 4-4-2 overall after dropping a 2-1 decision at home against Oklahoma on Tuesday. The Golden Eagles will play their opening league match at South Dakota on Friday before taking on the Bison Sunday.
  • ORU was picked to finish sixth in The Summit League Preseason Coaches' Poll.
  • Through 10 matches, Brittany Lawrence leads the Golden Eagles offensively with five goals and 11 points, while Kayla Keller has four goals and three assists. Maria Stordahl and Sam Forgione also have three assists. Four different ORU players have each netted a game-winning goal.
  • Goalkeepers Maddie Rhodes and Ryliegh Bohnenstiehl have split time between the pipes through 10 matches. Rhodes has played 450 minutes and has a 2-1-1 record with 17 saves and four goals allowed for a 0.80 GAA, while Bohnenstiehl has logged 490 minutes and has a 2-3-1 record with 39 saves and 10 goals allowed for a 1.84 GAA.
  • As a team, the Golden Eagles are averaging 2.10 goals per game while holding their adversaries to 1.40 per game.
  • ORU is under the direction of third season head coach Roger Bush (23-18-6 record at Oral Roberts).

Head Coach Mark Cook
Mark Cook is in his fourth season at the helm of the North Dakota State soccer program after being named head coach in 2012.  He is the fourth head coach in the 20-year history of the program.
 
Last season, Cook led the Bison to an 8-8-2 overall record and a fourth place finish in The Summit League with a league mark of 4-2-2. North Dakota State made its sixth consecutive appearance in The Summit League tournament and had five student-athletes named All-Summit League, including goalkeeper Sierra Bonham, who was named the league's Goalkeeper of the Year after compiling a 0.94 goals-against average with 5.1 shutouts and a save percentage of .827. Bonham was the first-ever NDSU student-athlete to earn the honor.
 
Cook came to NDSU after serving as the Director of Coaching at the Minnesota Thunder Academy for 11 years, where he grew a four-team program into one of the premier club programs in the Twin Cities with 65 teams in 2012.
 
Cook holds the United States Soccer Federation 'A' coaching license, the highest certification available in the U.S.  He also has the NSCAA Premier License and Director of Coaching Diploma.
 
He graduated from Alfred (N.Y.) University in 1993 with a bachelor's degree in communications. He was the starting goalkeeper at Alfred for two years.
