FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State University women's soccer team shut out the University of Northern Iowa Panthers, 2-0, on a sunny Sunday afternoon, Aug. 21, at Dacotah Field in front of 228 spectators.

With the win, the Bison improve to 1-1-0 overall, while UNI falls to 0-1-1 on the season.

Senior Amy Yang scored the opening goal for NDSU in the 33rd-minute. Yang controlled a pass from fellow senior Lauren Miller on the left side of the box and angled her shot into the upper right corner of the goal to put North Dakota State up, 1-0. It was Yang's first goal of the season and Miller's first assist.

Nine minutes later, senior Autumn Muckenhirn headed in a corner kick from freshman Mariah Haberle, building the Bison advantage to 2-0. It was Muckenhirn's first career collegiate goal and Haberle's inaugural assist of 2016.

Northern Iowa attempted to mount a comeback in the second-half, but freshman goalkeeper Monica Polgar and the NDSU defense kept the Panthers off the scoreboard the final 45 minutes, securing the victory.

North Dakota State outshot UNI, 16-9, and tallied an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks taken.

Polgar earned her first collegiate win in-goal for the Bison after going the full 90 minutes and making a match-high five saves to improve to 1-1-0 on the season.

Sydney Harden and Sarah Brandt each compiled two shots on goal to lead Northern Iowa.

UNI goalkeeper Whitney Blunt made four saves but surrendered two goals to suffer the loss and fall to 0-1-1 overall.

North Dakota State is scheduled to travel to Northridge, Calif., on Friday, Aug. 26, to take on Cal State Northridge in a non-league match. First kick is slated for 7 p.m. CT (5 p.m. PT).
