FARGO, N.D. – Junior
Malley O'Brien's game-winning goal in the 104th-minute lifted the North Dakota State University women's soccer team to a 2-1 double overtime victory over the Oral Roberts University Golden Eagles Friday, Oct. 6, in a Summit League match under the lights at Dacotah Field.
O'Brien, who netted both NDSU goals in the match, corralled a pass from freshman
Danielle Algera and slid the ball into the back of the net to give the Bison (4-9-0 overall, 2-1-0 Summit) the sudden victory with just six minutes to go in the second and final extra time period. It was O'Brien's team-high fourth goal of the season and Algera's team-best third assist.
Oral Roberts (4-8-1 overall, 1-1-0 Summit) gained an early 1-0 advantage after Amogelang Motau netted a goal off a shot from distance in the sixth-minute.
The Bison responded, though, as O'Brien scored the equalizer three minutes later off an assist from junior
Holly Enderle. It was Enderle's second assist of 2017.
For the match, Oral Roberts outshot NDSU, 21-19, but the Bison owned a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks taken.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Monica Polgar (4-4-0) earned her fourth win of the season between the posts for North Dakota State after allowing one goal while making six saves.
Oral Roberts goalkeeper Ryliegh Bohnenstiehl (3-5-0) made a match-high nine saves, but suffered the loss in goal.
North Dakota State is scheduled to host the Omaha Mavericks in a Summit League match Sunday, Oct. 8, at 1 p.m. at Dacotah Field.
