Bison Soccer Hosts Oral Roberts, Omaha to Close Home Slate

Scene Setter
The North Dakota State Bison women's soccer team (7-5 overall, 4-1 Summit) will host a pair of Summit League matches this weekend to close out the home slate. The Bison will face Oral Roberts at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 19 and Omaha at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 21 at Dacotah Field. 

The Series with Oral Roberts
NDSU is 7-2-1 all-time against Oral Roberts. The first three matches in the series, starting in 2007, went to overtime, as did last year's 2-1 Bison victory in Fargo. NDSU is 4-2 all-time against the Golden Eagles in Fargo.

The Series with Omaha
The Bison own an 8-3-1 lead in the all-time series against Omaha. NDSU has won three-straight over the Mavericks, including a 3-2 win in Fargo last year. The Bison have won the last four meetings in Fargo dating back to 2011.

North Dakota State Notes
  • Five of the last six meetings between the Bison and Golden Eagles have been shutouts, with NDSU recording four of those five victories.
  • The Bison had won six-straight over Oral Roberts until the Golden Eagles knocked off the Bison in the 2016 Summit League Championship Semifinals.
  • NDSU has won six of the last seven matches with Omaha, with the 2014 match ending in a 1-1 tie in double overtime.
  • The last time the Bison dropped a home match to Omaha was a 4-0 loss in 2003.
  • NDSU posted its second shutout of the season on Sunday, as Mariah Haberle scored in the 75th minute to defeat South Dakota State 1-0.
  • Bison junior Monica Polgar earned The Summit League Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week honors for her performance against SDSU, where she notched four saves. It was her first honor of the season and the fifth time in her career she has earned the award.
  • The Bison scored a pair of goals in a span of less than three minutes in the second half at North Dakota on Oct. 7, earning a 2-1 victory. Trailing 1-0, NDSU netted two goals in 2 minutes and 30 seconds to surge into the lead. Bison senior Hanna Norman beat UND keeper Olivia Swenson in the 76th minute, and senior Malley O'Brien scored for NDSU in the 78th minute.
  • NDSU's five goals at Purdue Fort Wayne on Sept. 30 were its most in a Summit League match since a 5-0 victory over the Mastodons on Oct. 23, 2016.
  • NDSU senior defender Hanna Norman was named The Summit League's Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 1. Norman scored two goals, including the game-winner at Western Illinois, as the Bison allowed only one goal in 194 minutes of action.
  • Junior goalkeeper Monica Polgar moved into fourth all-time at NDSU with her 24th career win last week. 
  • Junior Mariah Haberle leads the Bison in points (14), goals (6), shots (50) and shots on goal (25). 
  • NDSU senior Roxy Roemer leads The Summit League and ranks 26th in the nation with .50 assists per game.
  • Junior Mariah Haberle ranks 26th in the nation with 2.08 shots on goal per game, while ranking 28th with 4.17 shots per game.
  • The Bison welcomed back 10 starters from last season, including three all-league honorees in Malley O'Brien (first team), Hanna Norman (second team) and Danielle Algera (freshmen team). Goalkeeper Monica Polgar, who ranked second in The Summit League with six shutouts, also returns as a starter. 
 
About Oral Roberts
  • The Golden Eagles enter the weekend with an 8-9 overall record and 3-2 in The Summit League. Oral Roberts is 1-6 on the road going into their final three matches of the year, all of which are on the road.
  • After dropping a 3-1 decision at South Dakota on Oct. 4, the Golden Eagles have posted back-to-back home victories to close the home slate. Oral Roberts earned wins over Purdue Fort Wayne (1-0) and Western Illinois (3-1). 
  • Junior forward Jordan Langebartels leads the Golden Eagles with seven goals scored and four assists.
  • The Golden Eagles have scored 17 goals in their eight victories, while scoring just two goals in their nine losses.
  • Senior Ryliegh Bohnenstiehl (900:00) and junior Reagan Richins (638:46) have spent the season in the net for the Golden Eagles. Bohnenstiehl has notched 43 saves and six wins, while Richins has 39 saves and a pair of victories.

About Omaha
  • The Mavericks enter the weekend with a 5-9-2 overall record and 2-2-1 in The Summit League. Omaha is 0-8-1 on the road this year. The Mavericks will play at South Dakota State on Friday night before traveling to Fargo for the Sunday match.
  • Omaha has won two of its last three matches. Inside of wins over Purdue Fort Wayne (2-0) and South Dakota (1-0), the Mavericks tied North Dakota 1-1 in double overtime on Oct. 11.
  • Bailey Cascio and Emily Romero have each scored three goals this year for the Mavericks.
  • Emily Romero earned The Summit League Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week honors after scoring the only goal in both of Omaha's victories last week.
  • Ina Gudjonsdottir and Erin Bunker have each spent over 700 minutes in goal this year for the Mavericks. Bunker has four wins and 30 saves, while Gudjonsdottir has 37 saves with a victory.

On the Horizon
The Bison will hit the road for the final regular season match of the year on Friday, Oct. 26, as they travel to Vermillion, S.D. to face South Dakota.
