Bison Roll to 5-0 Victory over Manitoba in Season-Opening Exhibition Match

FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State University women's soccer team opened the 2018 season with a 5-0 shutout win over the University of Manitoba Bisons in an exhibition match Friday, Aug. 10, at Dacotah Field.

North Dakota State is slated to host the University of Jamestown in an exhibition contest Sunday, Aug. 12, at 9:30 a.m. before opening the regular season Thursday, Aug. 16, at Wisconsin.

Junior Mariah Haberle scored two goals on five shots and dished out an assist to pace the Bison offense, while Brookelyn Dew, Daniella Jasper and Marian Taiwo also scored for NDSU. Roxy Roemer, Malley O'Brien and Sydney Johnson each added an assist in the contest, respectively.

Junior goalkeeper Monica Polgar secured the victory between the pipes after giving up no goals and making two saves in 45 minutes.

Dew put North Dakota State in front for good just 13 minutes into the match, netting a goal off a Haberle corner kick. The Bison would score two more times in the first-half, with Jasper finding the back of the net off a Roemer feed in the 28th minute and Haberle scoring via an O'Brien assist in the 39th minute.

NDSU didn't let up in the final 45 minutes, as Haberle completed her brace with a goal off a Johnson pass in the 49th minute, and Taiwo scored a goal in the 69th minute.

For the match, the Bison outshot Manitoba, 23-6, and limited the Bisons to just one corner kick while earning 12 of their own.

Hailey Lavarias, Gabrielle Clark and Amanda Wong each tallied a shot on goal, leading Manitoba.

Bisons goalkeeper Justina Jarmoszko suffered the loss after giving up three goals and making five saves in 41 minutes in-goal.
