Big Second Half Leads NDSU Soccer to Victory

BURLINGTON, Vt. - The North Dakota State women's soccer team scored three second half goals, including two within a two minute span, in a 3-0 victory over Vermont on Friday night on the first day of the TD Bank Classic.

NDSU moved to 2-0-1 on the season with the win, while Vermont suffered its first loss of the year to drop to 2-1. It was the first road match of the season for the Bison. The Bison improved to 4-0 under head coach Mike Regan when scoring three or more goals. NDSU will face New Hampshire (2-1, 0-0 America East) on Sunday in the championship match of the TD Bank Classic. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. (Central) time.

"I was extremely pleased with our effort for 90 minutes tonight," Regan said. "Every player was prepared to play. They each stepped on the field willing to do whatever it took to win the game."

After a scoreless first half, Elyse Huber lifted the lid early in the half on a goal in the 49th minute off an assist from Laura Powell. It was the first goal at NDSU for Huber. Just over two minutes later, Brookelyn Dew scored her first goal of the season off an assist from Marian Taiwo in the 51st minute. The assist was the second of the season for Taiwo. Huber ended the scoring with her second goal of the match in the 62nd minute for the 3-0 victory.

"We had opportunities in the first half to be up a goal or two at the half," Regan added. "It just showed that we are very young team that is evolving by scoring three goals in the second half. Overall, it was a very good performance. We need to be prepared for another good opponent in New Hampshire on Sunday."

Huber led the Bison with six shots, while Lavin Douglass added three. In the net, Monica Polgar recorded five saves to improve to 2-0-1 on the season. The victory was the 28th of Polgar's career, as she moved into a tie for third in school history in victories.

The Catamounts had a 15-14 advantage in shots.
