On Bison 1660
Friday's matchup with Austin Peay is the first of three Bison soccer games this season that will be on the radio on Bison 1660. BJ Walters will have the call for the game.

The Series
The Bison and Governors will meet for just the second time in program history, with the only other meeting coming in 2008. Nicole Rand and Emily Brostrom each scored first-half goals to lead NDSU to a 2-1 victory over Austin Peay in the season opener on Aug. 22.

NDSU and Drake will face one another for the 14th time in series history, dating back to Oct. 22, 2004. Drake leads the series 9-3-1, but NDSU claimed the last meeting with a 1-0 victory on Sept. 11 last season. Then senior Lavin Douglass scored the only goal in the 80th minute to cap senior day for the Bison.

Last Time Out
The Bison fell to the Montana, 3-1, at Dacotah Field on Sunday, Aug. 20, suffering its first defeat of the season. The Grizzlies jumped out to a quick lead, scoring three goals in the first 12 minutes. The Bison would answer back just before half time, as Amaya Garrett scored on a free kick from 30 yards out.

NDSU Receives United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award
On Aug. 16, the Bison were named a United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award recipient, being recognized for their exemplary performance in the classroom during the 2022-23 academic year. To qualify for the award, a team must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher for the entire academic year. The Bison posted a 3.40 team GPA for 2022-23.

Amaya Garrett Continues Strong Start
Freshman Amaya Garrett made a splash in her debut for the Bison on the back line. Garrett made several key tackles and didn't allow a quality scoring opportunity on her wing in 90 minutes. Garrett also made a key shot block in the box in the second half to stop a counter attack and keep the game level at 1-1.

In her second collegiate game, Garrett continued to excel for the Bison, as she contributed offensively with her first collegiate goal. Garrett whipped in a free kick from 30 yards out at a tough angle, bending in the shot into the top right corner.

The Bison at Home
NDSU has a 47-28-6 record at Dacotah Field since moving from the Ellig Sports Complex at the start of the 2013 season. Heading into 2023, the Bison have had a .500 or better winning percentage at home in eight of the 10 seasons.

Team Captain
Head coach Mike Regan announced senior Paige Goaley will serve as the team captain in 2023. Goaley, who was one of two captains last season (alongside Dani Stuber) is in her fifth year with the Bison.

What's Next?
The Bison will wrap up a three-game road swing with a trip to South Carolina. North Dakota State will face a pair of new opponents for the first time, as the Herd takes on Coastal Carolina in Conway on Thursday, Aug. 31, before traveling to Charleston on Sunday, Sept. 3 to take on The Citadel.
