NDSU Soccer Picks Up Road Win at Coastal Carolina

CONWAY, S.C. – The North Dakota State soccer team picked up a 1-0 victory at Coastal Carolina for the Bison's first cleansheet and road victory of the season Thursday, Aug. 31, at CCU Soccer Stadium.

Coming out of halftime, the Bison (2-2-1) carried some momentum generated at the end of the first half and earned a corner kick in the 49th minute. Off of the corner, the ball bounced into the box and came to the feet of Amaya Garrett, who made a short run to the right side and fired across goal to beat Vivienne Carr and give the Bison the lead with the game's only goal.

Garrett's goal is the second of the freshman's career, and the Omaha native became the first multi-goal scorer of the season for the Bison. She also became the second Bison freshman to score a game-winning goal this season.

Coastal Carolina (2-2-0) started strong, picking up a couple quality scoring chances early. Their best chance came on a breakaway in the 11th minute that NDSU goalkeeper Abby Wilkinson denied with a diving save.

The hosts would lead the Bison 8-2 in shots in the first half, but Wilkinson had four saves and the Bison picked up some late momentum with a few chances and an effort from Ava Stanchina that was denied from close range just before the break.

Paige Goaley would have some of the strongest opportunities in the remainder of the game following the goal, as she had two efforts saved late in the second half.

Coastal Carolina led in shots 13-8, but Wilkinson finished with a season high eight saves to pick up her first cleansheet of the season and the sixth of her career.

North Dakota State is set to return to action on Sunday, Sept. 3, traveling to Charleston, S.C. to take on The Citadel. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT at Washington Light Infantry Field and the game will be available on ESPN+.
