NDSU Wrestling Dominates RV Northern Colorado 29-12

GREELEY, Colo. – North Dakota State wrestling started strong and picked up seven victories in a dominating dual win over RV Northern Colorado, winning 29-12 Friday night at Bank of Colorado Arena in Big 12 action.
 
The Bison picked up bonus point decisions in three of the first four matches. Max Petersen opened up the dual with three takedowns and a major decision at 157 pounds over Roman Cruz, 12-2. Boeden Greenley then came from behind to win 12-5 over Clayton Ulrey at 165 pounds, nearly securing another bonus-point decision, giving NDSU a 7-0 lead.
 
Devin Wasley sparked the first big points of the night, as he also came from behind with a reversal into a pin in the second period to take down Aydin Rix-McElhinney, as NDSU's lead extended to 13-0. Aidan Brenot followed up at 184 pounds with another major decision, as he took down No. 24 in the Flo rankings, AJ Heeg with a 12-2 win in the fourth-straight win to start the dual for the Bison
 
After Northern Colorado picked up a win at 197 pounds to end the first half, Drew Blackburn-Forst gave the Bison a fifth win on the night with his return to Greeley, as the former Golden Bear defeated Jose Valdez 7-3 to extend NDSU's lead to 20-3.
 
Northern Colorado would get another win at 125 pounds, but the Bison would secure the dual at 133 pounds, as No. 25 Kyle Burwick topped Mikai Alirez with a first period tech fall, winning 15-0 to put NDSU ahead 25-6.
 
The Bison would add one more win on the night, as No. 29 Gavin Drexler wrapped up the dual with a victory over Benji Alanis at 149 pounds, winning with an 8-0 major decision.
 
With the win, the Bison improve to 40-5-2 all-time against Northern Colorado, including 11 straight victories overall and five straight in Greeley.
 
The Bison will return to action on Sunday, taking on Air Force in Colorado Springs. The dual is set to get underway at 1 p.m. CT/12 p.m. MT inside Clune Arena.
