NDSU Wrestling Tops Air Force 25-12

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – North Dakota State wrestling used a strong start to defeat Air Force 25-12 Sunday afternoon inside Clune Arena and pick up back-to-back Big 12 dual victories.

The Bison started strong in the dual, as Tristan Daugherty picked up a thrilling win in sudden victory over Bubba Wright, nearly securing a fall at 125 pounds to give the Bison an early lead. No, 25 Kyle Burwick then secured the first bonus-point decision for the Bison, as he picked up a second period tech fall over Gavin Caprella, winning 15-0.

Following a pin for Air Force at 141 pounds, No. 29 Gavin Drexler gave the Bison the first of back-to-back major decisions to end the first half of the dual, securing three takedowns to defeat Alec Viduya 11-2 at 149 pounds. Max Petersen then recorded five takedowns in a 17-6 major decision over EJ Beloncik at 157 pounds to give NDSU a 16-6 lead at the break.

Boeden Greenley and Devin Wasley would ultimately put the dual out of reach with a pair of decisions at 165 and 174 pounds. Greenley used two reversals to defeat Logan Fowler 7-4, while Wasley secured two late takedowns to defeat Jack Ganos 7-3 and extend the NDSU lead to 22-6.

Following wins for Air Force at 184 and 197 pounds, Drew Blackburn-Forst closed out the dual for the Bison with a pair of takedowns in an 8-3 win over Antonio Ramos.

With the win, the Bison improve to 21-3 all-time against Air Force, including a perfect 4-0 in Colorado Springs in the Big 12 era.

The Bison will have a week off before returning to the Scheels Center at the Sanford Health Athletic Complex for the first time since November 22, with a pair of Big 12 duals. NDSU opens up the weekend with a Friday night dual on January 31 against Wyoming, before hosting Utah Valley a day later on February 1. Both duals will be at 7 p.m. and will be televised on WDAY Xtra.
