NDSU Wrestling Claims Big 12 Win at Cal Baptist

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – North Dakota State wrestling picked up a win in its final Big 12 road dual of the season, defeating California Baptist 24-13 Saturday afternoon at Van Dyne Gym.
 
NDSU secured three major decision victories and seven wins overall, including six of the first seven matches to jump out to a lead that it never relinquished.
 
Boeden Greenley started off the dual for NDSU with a couple of takedowns on his way to an 8-4 win over Daniel Manibog at 165 pounds. Devin Wasley then won 3-1 with an escape, riding time point and a penalty point over Carter Schmidt at 174 pounds.
 
The Bison picked up their first bonus points with #32 Aidan Brenot securing a 12-1 win over Nathan Haas at 184 pounds. Brenot recorded a couple of takedowns to go along with an escape, a riding time point and four penalty points awarded from four stalling calls on Haas.
 
Following a loss at 197 pounds, Drew Blackburn-Forst started another three-match win streak for the Bison at heavyweight, securing a takedown in the final seconds to win 4-1 over Tristan Kemp. Tristan Daugherty then gave NDSU three more team points with a 2-1 win over Mitchell Neiner at 125 pounds, winning with an escape and a penalty point on two stalling calls against Neiner.
 
At 133 pounds, #23 Kyle Burwick gave NDSU its second major decision, using a takedown and a reversal to go up 5-0, before racking up a pair of four-point nearfalls on his way to a 15-1 win over Hunter Leake. Two matches later, #31 Gavin Drexler recorded a 12-3 major decision over Paul Kelly at 149 pounds, winning with three takedowns, a pair of escapes and a riding time point.
 
The Bison return to action on Sunday, taking on No. 15 Little Rock and Cal State Bakersfield in a triangular hosted by Bakersfield. The first dual against Little Rock is set for a 1 p.m. CT/11 a.m. PT start at the Icardo Center, with the second dual immediately following.
