FARGO, N.D. –
Lauren Jansen notched a match-high 17 kills to help lift the North Dakota State volleyball team past Idaho, 3-1, on Thursday night at Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.
Jansen, who has posted double figures in kills in all six matches this season, posted a season-best 17 kills to go along with three digs, three service aces and two blocks.
Baily Randall contributed a season-high 13 kills with eight digs and three service aces.
Maddy Dombeck also handed out a team-best 20 assists and
Rya Borer added a match-high 20 digs.
Both teams traded points through the first frame until the Bison (5-1) were able to build a 21-18 edge with a kill from
Zoe John. Idaho (2-5) battled its way back with a 4-1 run to lock the contest, 22-22, following a kill from Kiana Greer. The Bison then closed the set with three straight points capped off by a block from
Emma Tallman and
Arianna Blohm to win the frame, 25-22.
The Vandals pushed back in the second frame opening up a 14-9 lead by the midway point. The Bison responded to trim the deficit down to one, 17-16, with a block from Randall and
Ally Barth. However, Idaho went on to hold off NDSU the rest of the way to win the set, 25-20.
The two teams battled through a match-high seven ties and four lead changes in the third frame. The Vandals were able to open up a six-point edge, 19-13, following six unanswered points. NDSU answered with a momentum-shifting 8-2 run to lock the frame, 22-22, with a kill from Jansen. The Bison then closed the set on a 4-1 run with two kills and a block assist from Jansen to steal the frame, 26-24.
NDSU carried the energy into the fourth frame sprinting out to a 7-1 lead with a solo block from Tallman. The Bison, who never trailed in the set, then increased their lead to 21-9 with another kill from Jansen. NDSU went on to win the set, 25-14, and the match, 3-1.
NDSU will be back in action on Saturday hosting Kent State. First serve is set for 11:00 a.m., at Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.
