NDSU Men’s Golf Heads to Arizona for Bell Bank Collegiate

FARGO, N.D. - The North Dakota State Men's golf team will travel down to Arizona this week for the Bell Bank "Pay It Forward" Collegiate. Hosted by Minnesota and St. Thomas, the tournament will be held at Wigwam Golf Club in Litchfield Park, Arizona, on March 23-24.
 
TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE
The Bell Bank "Pay It Forward" Collegiate will be a 54-hole tournament played across two days. The event will begin with the first two rounds taking place on Monday, and the final 18-holes finishing on Tuesday. Tee times are scheduled for 8 a.m. MST for both days.

The Tournament Field
Co-hosted by Minnesota and St. Thomas, the Bell Bank "Pay It Forward" Collegiate will feature 17 teams in the competition. Along with NDSU, the tournament field will include Arkansas State, Bethel, Denver, Drake, Iowa State, Kansas City, Marquette, Maryland, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oral Roberts, UT San Antonio, Utah State, and Wisconsin.
 
THE COURSE
Nicknamed "Arizona's Monster", the Gold Course at Wigwam Golf Club has been regarded as one of the most challenging courses in Arizona. Originally opening in 1965, the Gold Course was designed by architect Robert Trent Jones, Sr. The par-72 course spans a yardage of 7,345 from the back tees and is known for the signature long par-4s and elevated greens. Along with hosting the Bell Bank Collegiate, the esteemed Gold Course has hosted tournaments of all skill levels, including multiple USGA qualifiers for the U.S. Open and U.S. Amateur, as well as several NCAA Regional Championships.
 
BISON AT THE BELL BANK COLLEGIATE
This will be the first appearance for the Bison at the Bell Bank "Pay It Forward" Collegiate in the second iteration of the event.
 
LAST TIME OUT
NDSU enters the Bell Bank Collegiate following a 13th place finish at the Sam Ryder Intercollegiate. Rylin Petry was the highest-placing Bison, finishing in a tie for 20th in the 84-golfer field.
 
BISON COMPETING 
NDSU will take five golfers out west to the Bell Bank "Pay It Forward" Collegiate. The Bison lineup will include Andrew Ballou, Gabe Benson, Rylin Petry, Jake Skarperud, and Max Wilson
 
BISON NOTES
- Senior Jake Skarperud will begin the spring season after being named to the Summit League Golfers to Watch list. Skarperud currently leads the Bison with the lowest 54-hole score of the season of 209 (-4), along with most rounds at par or better with 12.
 
-Senior Rylin Petry enters the Sam Ryder Intercollegiate following a strong fall semester. Petry picked up his first collegiate victory at the Metropolis Intercollegiate to begin the season, and sits with the lowest season average of 72.13 through 23 rounds.
 
- Senior Gabe Benson started the spring off strong, matching his season-low round of 69 (-3) and recording a career-best 54-hole score of 218 (+2) at the Loyola Intercollegiate.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
After the Bell Bank "Pay It Forward" Collegiate, the Bison men will have a full week off before returning to action at the Racer Intercollegiate. Hosted by Murray State, the event will take place at the Country Club of Paducah in Paducah, Kentucky, on April 6-7.
