ST. PAUL, Minn. – Freshman left-handed pitcher Sheamus Ryan logged his first career complete game as the North Dakota State baseball team dropped a 3-2 decision at St. Thomas on Friday afternoon.
Ryan, who was making his second career start, posted the first complete game of any Bison pitcher this season. The Calgary, Alberta native tossed a career-high six strikeouts over a career-long 8.0 innings with no walks.
Joe Roder got the Tommies (12-37, 9-17 Summit) on the board with an RBI sacrifice fly to center field to make the score 1-0 in the third inning. Dante Smith responded for NDSU (12-32, 8-16 Summit) in the fourth after he blasted a solo home run on the first pitch to left field to lock the contest, 1-1.
St. Thomas answered in the fourth with an RBI groundout off the bat of Lucas McNellis and an RBI triple from Owen Bond in the fifth to extend its edge to 3-1. Chase Womack cut the deficit down to 3-2 for the Bison with an RBI single of his own up the middle in the sixth inning. However, NDSU couldn't get anything going the rest of the way and dropped the contest, 3-2.
NDSU totaled five hits as a team from five different players.
The Bison will wrap up their series at St. Thomas tomorrow. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
