
NDSU Baseball Splits Thursday Doubleheader at St. Thomas

After four scoreless frames in game one, the Bison (12-31, 8-15 Summit) broke through with four runs on three hits in the fifth inning. Tommy Simon started the scoring with an RBI sacrifice fly and Diego Trujillo added a two-run triple to make the score 3-0. Kyle Law closed out the inning with an RBI single into right center to stretch the lead to 4-0. St. Thomas (11-37, 8-17 Summit) got on the board with an RBI single in the sixth before Chase Womack sealed the 5-1 win with another RBI single in the seventh.
NDSU posted seven hits as a team with Trujillo going 2-of-5 at the plate with two runs and two RBI. Womack also contributed two hits on three appearances with one RBI.
Garrett Shupe (2-2) earned the win tossing four strikeouts with no walks and one run over a season-high 6.0 innings. Braden Gluth picked up his first save as a Bison with one strikeout over the final 3.0 innings.
The Bison carried the momentum into game two connecting on three doubles in the opening inning. Trujillo started the game with a leadoff double and Colten Becker then sent him home on an RBI double of his own. Womack extended the lead to 2-0 in the first inning after he lifted an RBI double into left field.
Joe Roder responded for the Tommies with an RBI groundout to cut the deficit in half, 2-1, in the bottom half of the first. Law answered for the Bison in the third with a two-run homer to deep left field to push the edge to 4-1. However, St. Thomas erupted for 11 runs on 11 hits in the fourth inning to steal a 12-4 advantage after Easton Fritcher delivered an RBI single to left field. NDSU went on to drop the contest, 16-6, in seven innings.
The Bison tallied 10 hits as a team with Law going 2-of-4 at the plate with two RBI and two runs. Dante Smith also notched a multi-hit game with two on four appearances to go along with one run and one RBI.
Easton Reimers (0-2) made his first career start on the mound with one strikeout over a season-long 3.1 innings.
NDSU will continue its series with St. Thomas tomorrow. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
