FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State head baseball coach Tyler Oakes has announced the addition of Andy Young to the coaching staff as an assistant coach.
Young was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 2016 MLB Draft before going on to play for the Arizona Diamondbacks from 2020-21. He made his MLB debut on August 1, 2020 against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Young also went on to sign with the Washington Nationals after the 2021 season.
"I am thrilled to add Andy to our coaching staff and want to welcome him and his family to NDSU!" said Oakes. "Andy has played baseball at the highest level and has a vast knowledge of the game being around it his entire life. I am excited for our players to get the chance to work with him and he will add tremendous value to our program."
Young is a native a West Fargo, N.D., and attended West Fargo High School where he was named the North Dakota Gatorade Player of the Year in 2012. After starting his college career at Jamestown and Neosho Community College, he played two seasons at Indiana State and was a Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Honorable Mention in 2015 and MVC All-Conference Third Team selection in 2016.
"I'm proud to be joining the North Dakota State baseball staff," said Young. "As a North Dakota native, it's an honor to return home and be part of such a respected program. I'm grateful for the opportunity and ready to get to work."
Young joins the staff after spending the 2025 season assisting with the Concordia-Moorhead baseball program.
