NDSU Soccer Battles Washington State to Scoreless Draw

FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State and Washington State played out a 0-0 draw Sunday afternoon at Dacotah Field.
NDSU goalkeeper Payton Mulberry made three saves to record her first cleansheet of the season and eighth of her career, moving into a tie for ninth at NDSU all time. The Cougars finished with a 12-9 advantage in total shots, but the Cougars didn't have a shot on goal after the 25th minute of the contest.
The Cougars generated a few opportunities early, but Mulberry turned aside shots from Maddie Martin, Kate Spangler and Calli Holje with routine saves in the opening 25 minutes to keep the match scoreless.
The Bison controlled the majority of the final 20 minutes of the first half and then came out aggressively after halftime. Morgan Russmann put three shots toward goal in the opening five minutes of the second half, including a shot in the 47th minute that was tipped over the bar. NDSU continued to apply pressure, earning four second-half corner kicks and forcing Washington State to defend deep for stretches.
NDSU continued to threaten through the entirety of the second half, with Ava Stanchina recording a pair of second-half shots, including an attempt in the 88th minute.
Russmann led the Bison with three shots, while Stanchina added two. Isabel Garcia and Alayna Gleeson and Mulberry each recorded a shot.
The Bison remain at home Thursday, August 27, when they host Prairie View A&M. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Dacotah Field.
