NDSU Soccer Tops Prairie View A&M 3-1

FARGO, N.D. – Maddie Miller and Ellie Sanchez scored their first career goals to lift North Dakota State women's soccer past Prairie View A&M 3-1 on Thursday evening at Dacotah Field.
The Bison controlled the match from the outset, outshooting Prairie View 22-3 and earning a 14-0 advantage in corner kicks. NDSU also put nine shots on goal while holding the Panthers to just one.
NDSU broke through in the 31st minute when Maddie Miller scored her first goal off a corner kick, redirecting a ball from Morgan Russmann into the net, giving the Bison a 1-0 lead they carried into halftime.
Prairie View pulled level early in the second half when Ashanti Hall scored in the 58th minute, but the tie lasted just over three minutes. Russmann put NDSU back in front in the 62nd minute, finishing a chance on a free kick by Ava Stanchina for her second goal of the season.
The Bison added an insurance goal in the 79th minute. Stanchina played a ball to the corner for Chloe Birch, who whipped a cross into the box. Ellie Sanchez then smashed the cross off of the bottom side of the crossbar and in to push the NDSU advantage to 3-1.
NDSU returns to action Sunday, Aug. 30, hosting Presbyterian at 1 p.m. at Dacotah Field.
