SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – North Dakota State women's soccer erased a two-goal deficit, as the Bison battled UC Santa Barbara to a 3-3 draw Sunday afternoon in a thriller at Harder Stadium.

NDSU fell behind 2-0 early in the second half before scoring three goals over 31 minutes to take the lead. However, UC Santa Barbara would find a late equalizer in the 85th minute to send the teams to a draw.

The Gauchos opened the scoring in the seventh minute when Olivia Howard found the top corner from outside the penalty area. UC Santa Barbara carried the 1-0 advantage into halftime. The hosts extended their lead to 2-0 just over five minutes into the second half when Delilah Vega-Aguilar scored.

NDSU answered quickly. Ava Stanchina put the Bison on the board in the 53rd minute, converting a pass from Maddie Miller and finding the top corner at the back post for her first of the season. 25 minutes later, Morgan Russmann scored her fourth goal of the season. Isabel Garcia's shot from distance hit off the crossbar and Russmann finished from close range to level the game at 2-2.

Six minutes later, Russmann made a run through the Gauchos defense and sent in a pass to Gabrielle Garrett at the center of the penalty area. Garrett fired with her first touch and found the back of the net to give the Bison the lead 3-2.

However, UC Santa Barbara would rescue a draw on their senior day, as Ava Jarolimek scored less than two minutes later to tie the game.

NDSU finished with 13 shots, including seven on goal, compared with 18 shots and five shots on goal for the Gauchos. Payton Mulberry made two saves in goal for the Bison.

With the draw, the Bison close the opening road trip of the season. NDSU returns home Thursday, September 10, to host Florida Atlantic. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Dacotah Field.
